What you need

Seven containers, which is more than anyone will ask you for. That is on purpose, and the reason is at the bottom of this section.

These are drawings, not a shopping list. Old buckets, sacks or bags do exactly the same job, and green for wet and blue for dry are the colours used almost everywhere in India, though no rule actually names a colour.

Seven is more than your city asks for, and that is the point. You can always tip two of these into one of theirs. You can never un-mix a bin. Sorting finely at home costs you nothing and is the only moment where separating things is still cheap and accurate. So sort by these seven, then hand them over the way your own building, collector and state expect. If your block has one dry bin, both blues go in it, and the sorting you did still counts, because you can hand the good half straight to whoever buys it.
